Texas holdem rules

Because most people play Texas Holdem no limit we will be explaining this game.

Texas Holdem is played with up to 10 players and uses 1 deck of 52 cards. First everybody gets 1 card open and the highest card starts as the dealer (in casinos the dealer never plays, online a players receives a dealer button to decide who deals).

The person next to the dealer (clockwise) pays the small blind and the person next to the small blind pays the big blind. The blinds are meant to keep the game alive or else everybody would fold and not much playing happens.

After this everybody gets 2 closed cards that are only meant for this players eyes. The person next to the big blind (under the gun) is now the first to decide what to do. Either folds (doesn’t want to play and throws his cards away), calls (pays the big blind to maybe see the flop) or raises (he has a very good hand and doesn’t want everybody playing or just bluffs). When this player is done all other players get a turn to do the same, also the small and big blind (someone can also re-raise another player).

When everybody made their move the flop is dealt. These are the first 3 cards that will be dealt open on the board for every player to use and make a hand. After they are dealt, another betting round will start, same as above, only now the first one to play is the small blind.

After this round a 4th card is dealt on the board, usually called the “turn” of “fourth street”. Again a betting round will start.

Then the final card will be shown, usually called the “river” or “fifth street”. And also the final betting round starts. After this all players that still remain will show their cards and the one that makes the highest hand of 5 cards with all 7 cards (his own 2 and the board) is the winner and gets the pot. Or if 2 or more players have the same hand, the pot is split between them. Remember that sometimes the cards on the board is the biggest hand.

(If during a game everybody folds after someone makes a bet he automatically is the winner and a new game starts)
