Tournament variations

Because more and more variations of poker tournaments are born every month this page is to, hopefully, explain in an easy way what kind of tournaments there are and how they are played.

  • Sit-n-go, multi or singe table (SNG)

A sit-n-go tournament is a poker tournament that will begin when the number of players needed have registered for the tournament. Every pokerroom offers SNG, but Titan Poker has a huge number of players and SNG fill up real fast here.

  • Multi table tournament (MTT)

A poker tournament that will begin at a certain time regardless of how many players have registered for the tournament. (sometimes a minimum of players is set) Every pokerroom offers MTT. Some of the best tournaments can be played at PokerStars.

  • Heads up (SNG)

A tournament that begins when 2 players have registered. They will face off and winner takes all. Some poker players are specialised in playing heads up. Most rooms offer heads up sit-n-go tournaments.

  • Gif BannersShootout or Rounders (MTT)

A multi table tournament with several rounds. Top 3 players from every 10 seated table win a part of the pot and progress to the next round where a new table of 10 players start the new round with again 3 players winning a part of the pot and progressing further (the number of rounds are based on the amount of players, the further you progess the higher the prizes) Very fun tournaments, but sometimes time consuming when waiting for other tables to finish. We recommend Party Poker for these tournaments.

  • Bounty, knockout or Headhunter (SNG & MTT)

A tournament where every player is worth a part of the buy in. For every player you knockout of the tournament (meaning you win his all in and he is out) you get the amount on his head. At some rooms this amount keeps increasing, at some rooms it is always the same amount for every player. Also you have a varation where the whole buy in is a bounty. But the most common one is where a part is bounty and a part is prizepool. We recommend PKR for these tournaments.

  • Steps, feeder (SNG)

This type of tournament goes as follows. You play a singe table SNG for a very low buy in. When you finish in the top 2 or 3 you progress to the next level. Again you have to play another SNG to progress. After finishing all levels and you are at the final level you will win a huge amount of cash when finishing in the money. Again there are some varations where numbers 4 and 5 receive another entry into current level or where you allready receive some cash when winning at higher levels. These tournaments are hard to win but when winning you always win a huge amount. We recommend Hollywood Poker for their feeder tournaments.

  • Heads up (MTT)

Tournament starts at a preselected time and all players go heads up. When you win you will go heads up again against another winner. Until the final 2 face off. We recommend Carbon Poker for these tournaments.

  • Second (or third) chance (MTT)

At the begin of this tournament you can choose if you wanna bring all your chips or 1/2 or 1/3 of your chips to the table. This way you can rebuy more chips after losing a bad hand or all in. These tournaments are available only on PKR.
